What Happens During a Royal Coronation?

16/01/2023Latest NewsThe King's Coronation

We don’t know about any of our readers, but we can safely say that many of us have never seen a royal coronation before! So what is a coronation and what happens during one? We’re here to answer your burning questions and introduce our up-and-coming coronation stock to help you celebrate this historic event! From coronation decorations to coronation medals, we guarantee we’ve got the products for you. If you’re interested in any of our coronation stock and would like to find out more, don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll be happy to tell you more!

History of the Coronation

A coronation is a ceremony for the establishment of a royal as the monarch. The event has been dated back over 1,000 years and it was introduced in Europe as a way to increase the involvement of the church with the state. It was also the ideal way to bring some stability to societies at a time when multiple people tried to stake a claim over the throne. The United Kingdom is the only country to keep up this tradition, with the last coronation being that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. If you’re thinking of celebrating this historic event, then you’ve come to the right place. We have just introduced our New Coronation Collection with everything you will need!

What happens during a royal coronation?

A coronation usually happens after a period of mourning and once all of the necessary preparations have been made. The coronation is usually held at Westminster Abbey, where the Archbishop of Canterbury conducts the event. There will be many representatives, including those from the House of Parliament, the Church and the State. To be officially crowned King, Charles will take an oath in which he’ll exercise justice with mercy and maintain the Church of England. After this, Charles will be ‘anointed, blessed and consecrated’ and given the royal orb and sceptres. Then, the crown will be placed on his head.

How can I celebrate the coronation?

There are plenty of ways you can celebrate the Coronation at home, with family, friends and maybe even neighbours! Whether you’re organising a family get-together or a large-scale street party, we’ve got something for everyone to help celebrate the coronation!

Coronation Decorations

Similar to the jubilee, we think our coronation decorations will be ideal for your event! We offer a range of Union Jack-themed decorations to bring out the true Britishness of the event. Union Jack hats, napkins, flags and bunting, party boxes, paper cups and paper plates are ideal for your party, whether a small family gathering or a big village party!

Coronation Mugs

These coronation mugs are perfect for offering to your party guests or to sell in schools. They offer a great piece of memorabilia of the day and nothing is more British than a cuppa tea and a biscuit!

Coronation Medals

For the coronation, we have a range of medals to help you celebrate and remember the day! Whether you’re taking part in a coronation-themed event, like a sports day, hosting a street party or a colour run, medals are a great way to reward winners or as a piece of memorabilia from the day.

Coronation Memorabilia

We have a range of coronation memorabilia that is ideal for placing on the table for each guest, or putting in a little gift bag at the end! Coronation bookmarks and pens are perfect pieces to help people remember the day as well as offering handy stationery to help with everyday tasks.

If you’re getting involved in a royal coronation event, we’d love to know! Share any photos you have of your celebrations and your medals.
