Coronation Party Ideas for Pubs and Councils

Coronation Party Ideas for Pubs and Councils

Gather with friends, family and your local community to celebrate the coronation in style!

Not only will the big day go down in history, with a few pointers from us here at Running Imp, your coronation party will too!

Here comes the King!

The time is nearly here! In just over a month the whole country will celebrate the Coronation of King Charles, the streets will be adorned with bunting, flags will be waving and there will be more than a few toasts raised to His Majesty’s reign. Unfortunately, in some areas a traditional street party simply isn’t an option, but not to worry, a local pub or village hall can also be perfect venues for hosting a joyful jamboree.

So whether you are a pub landlord, village council member or just a regular local who wants to bring the community together to celebrate our new king, we have some brilliant ideas to get you started.

Hosting a Coronation Party in a Pub

If there’s one thing us Brits love, it’s time at the pub!

Quite frankly, celebrating the royal coronation at your local wouldn’t just be appropriate, it’s patriotic. A ready made social hub equipped for big gatherings that are typically family friendly and have the capacity for event hosting. To get your pub coronation party ready we recommend the following:

  • Posters / flyers to promote your party - Spread the word to your guests by letting them know the time & date of your party, theme and what activities will be taking place.
  • Union Jack themed decorations - Kit out your local pub both inside and out with event themed bunting, flags and crockery.
  • Live Music - Who doesn’t love some music? Keep your guests entertained with a live performance from a local singer or band.
  • A Large Screen Viewing Area - Gather around as the king is crowned with a specially set up viewing area for your attendees.
  • Serve Food - This could be either a traditional party food buffet or perhaps a special one off menu full of iconic British dishes such as fish and chips, and with Union Jack Party Boxes, your guests will have a convenient serving solution that also minimises waste as any leftovers can be taken home.
  • A Royal Pub Quiz - Test your guests' knowledge of our beloved Royal Family with a traditional pub quiz that has a royal twist, with coronation souvenirs and mementos or coronation medals available as prizes. Include Medals here too

The coronation will be a day of momentous celebration, and with our suggestions above, you can ensure that your guests truly have a day to remember.

Having your Coronation Party at a Village Hall

If you live in a smaller town or village, a community hall or even a church could be the perfect place to have your coronation party.

Another example of a traditional social hub, you can gather friends, family and neighbours for a wonderful celebration of this historic day. A party being held at a village/community hall could include:

  • A Royal Theme - Again utilising union jack themed decorations, immerse your guests in the occasion with some traditional party decorations and provide attendees with a beautiful coronation coin so they have something to remember the day by.
  • Bingo - Have fun with some games of bingo, offering wonderful coronation themed prizes.
  • Craft Stalls - Bring out the creativity of your guests with crafts stalls for people to create crowns and flags.
  • Face Painting - Especially for the children, having a face painter is always a huge hit.
  • Bouncy Castle - If you have a big enough outdoor space, perhaps hire a bouncy castle for your younger attendees to enjoy.
  • Ice Cream Van - A traditional British staple, contact your local ice cream vendor and ask if they will stop by.
  • Jumble Sale - Ask your guests to bring donations towards a jumble sale where all proceeds can be allocated to a charity of choice.
  • Afternoon Tea - Instead of a traditional buffet, you could opt for the fundamentally British offering of afternoon tea with a range of delicious treats available such as home made flapjack, biscuits and sandwiches. And with Union Jack themed cocktail sticks, plates and cups everyone will be feeling that coronation spirit!

Community spirit is a big part of what makes a royal occasion special, and what better way to encourage that, than by contacting your local parish council and organising a traditional coronation village fete.
