The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, becoming the first British monarch to celebrate 70 years of service after ascending to the throne in 1952 at the age of 25. This will be the fourth major Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth's reign.
This momentous occasion will be celebrated throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and other communities around the world, including an additional four-day weekend UK bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June 2022.
To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, it is likely that you will receive a mug as a souvenir to commemorate the historic occasion and in most homes across the country, you may already have a couple of past Jubilee Mugs tucked away.
Receiving a commemorative mug has been a staple of British schools over the years and it is the perfect souvenir to give to their students as a keepsake to mark such an event.
The Jubilee Mug was first popularised in 1887 when mugs were mass-produced on a large scale to celebrate Queen Victoria’s 50-year reign, as it was believed that she would not live to celebrate another landmark.
These days, mugs and other artifacts dating back to Queen Victoria’s reign are now considered to be very rare, with cups from her coronation in 1838 fetching a considerable amount of money.
Commemorative souvenirs like coins have been a popular token to remember occasions like the Queen’s Jubilee.
The first Jubilee Coins were first introduced in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and was the equivalent to 5 shillings. However, the design of the coin which pictured Queen Victoria wearing her crown was widely mocked due to the crown appearing too small.
Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953 was the very first coin to be issued by Her Majesty - this particular coin pictured the Queen riding on horseback and remains one of the sought-after designs for today’s collectors.
A Jubilee marks a special anniversary of a major event celebrating twenty-five or fifty years of an event or reign. The first Jubilee Celebration began in 1300 AD and has religious connections to the Roman Catholic Church ‘the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation’.
Nowadays, despite having religious connections, we now associate Jubilees with celebrating historic milestones in the reign of a monarch. The first celebration of a Royal Jubilee took place in 1809 to mark the fiftieth-year reign of King George III.
Our Jubilee Mug makes the perfect souvenir and keepsake for years to come. We currently offer two types of mugs; Our Commemorative Platinum Jubilee Mug, styled with the purple Jubilee logo and date.
We also have the Queen’s Reign Jubilee Commemorative Mug that has been styled to show two photos of Her Majesty - one side celebrating her Coronation in 1952 and the other marking her 70 year anniversary.
Both mugs are available to be personalised with your wording and logo - perfect for adding your School or Event logo and name.
Our Jubilee Commemorative Coins mark this once-in-a-lifetime occasion and are the perfect memento to celebrate and remember the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Jubilee Coins are styled with the Official Platinum Jubilee emblem on the front and are available in Gold or Silver. All of our commemorative medals can be personalised through our engraving services.
